Researchers Seek Assessment of Mpox Vaccine on Strain Circulating in Uganda

Infectious disease experts have expressed the need to study the Mpox vaccine being administered to people at high risk of the viral disease currently affecting multiple African countries.
Speaking to journalists at a three-day scientific conference on MPOX organized by the Inter-Disciplinary Consortium for Epidemic Research (ICER), Prof Pontiano Kaleebu the Executive Director of UVRI said the virus strain currently circulating in Uganda and the neighbouring DR Congo is Clade 1b and yet no studies have been done to establish how the vaccine behaves with it.
